Recitals and Auditions
Recitals are scheduled monthly during the school year and all students are encouraged to participate in at least one recital
each semester. Student recitals are free and open to the public.
Prior to appearing in a recital, students are advised to attend any of the performance classes to prepare them in appropriate
public performance protocol. Participation in studio class will also fulfill this prerequisite. Occasional soirees and adult
student recitals are scheduled throughout the year for our community of older students. For the soirees, adult soloists and
chamber music players can gather together in the warm and encouraging environment of their own homes to play for one
another and enjoy refreshments or a shared meal together..

For the best, well-rounded musical training, we recommend that students take one or more of the following to supplement
their private lessons: Music Theory, Performance Class, Ensemble, Keyboard Skills
Teaching Methods and Musical Styles
Private lessons are available for all orchestral and band instruments, voice, piano, guitar, ukulele, hammered dulcimer and
percussion. At Parlando, we believe the most successful teaching is to educate a student according to the way the student
learns best. To that end we offer a wide variety of musical styles and teaching methods with the philosophy of
comprehensive musicianship. In addition to classical training, some teachers offer emphasis in jazz, folk, rock, gospel,
popular, musical theater, Suzuki instruction and more. The age at which a student may begin private instrumental
instruction depends upon the instrument and the individual student. Please call the office for guidance.
Instrument Rental
All students must have their own instruments, which can be rented or purchased at local music stores such as H.B.
Woodsongs in Boulder for winds and strings (303.449.0516) or Lafayette Music (303.661.9335) and Wells Music in
Denver for pianos and keyboards (303.777.1900). Be sure to mention that you were referred by Parlando.
Individual and group lessons on all instruments and voice continue year round. New students may begin lessons at any
time. Weekly private lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes long. Group lessons are also available as “duet lessons” or “trio
lessons” when students are matched by level and rate of progress. New students may enroll at any time by calling the
office and scheduling an appointment (in person or over the phone) with the Program Director for appropriate placement
in lessons and classes. Priority placement will be given to continuing students in good standing. Tuition is prorated for
new students who begin after the term has begun. Standard lesson rates for 2007-08 are as follows with Fall Semester
being 16 weeks and Spring Semester 19 weeks.

Certificate Programs
Parlando Musician’s Certificate Program
The Parlando Musician’s Certificate Program is open to students of any age who wish to pursue progressive levels of achievement. To receive the Musician’s Certificate, students are evaluated on their primary instrument and examined in music theory. The evaluation helps students, parents and teachers set progressive goals and achieve them, and have external validation and feedback for their efforts. The Musician’s Certificate encourages students with clear objectives and a graded measurement to chart their progress from year to year. Awards are given as each level is successfully completed. When both theory and instrumental requirements have been successfully completed, certificates are awarded at each level. At the final level, participating students will receive the prestigious Parlando Musician’s Certificate. Piano students will use the National Music Certificate Exams (see below) to fulfill their instrumental requirement for the Parlando Musician’s Certificate.
Evaluations: Mar. 8 at 10 a.m. for Strings, Winds, and Voice
